The site was surveyed and modeled, in this case using a Google Earth image as an aerial photograph mapped to a surface. The environment was created using the PhotoIntoHVE program available from DiscoverHVE.
The 2010 Chevrolet Equinox SUV and the 2003 Dodge Ram Pickup were selected directly from the Vehiclemetrics vehicle database. The geometry of the Equinox was modified to remove a portion of the roof to allow the visualization of the motion of the rear seated occupants during the collision.
The male and female rear-seat occupants of the Equinox were selected directly from the HVE human database.
The collision event was simulated using the SIMON 3-D Vehicle Dynamics Simulation Model and DyMESH 3-D Collision Model. The occupant motion and interaction with each other and the interior of the vehicle were simulated using the GATB Occupant/Pedestrian Simulation Model.
