The environment for this crash sequence was a flat and level intersection with four north-south lanes and four east-west lanes. Three quadrants were lined with small businesses; the fourth quadrant was an open grassy field.
Skidmarks were measured at the crash site. Frontal vehicle damage on the Ford Pickup and driver-side damage on the Suzuki Grand Vitara were obtained during vehicle inspections. This information was used to determine the pre-impact vehicle directions and configuration at impact. Rest positions were determined from police measurements and photographs.
