Since the speed limit was 55 mph, excessive speed was not a factor. The steering inputs required to cause the vehicle to follow the observed tire marks were consistent with a classic case of driver inattention, followed by over-correction. An investigation into the cause of the driver's injuries focused on the orientation and forces at the time of impact with the ground. By far, the greatest force occurred as the vehicle impacted the ground on the left (driver's) side, hence the resulting head injury.
