The list of new features, enhancements and capabilities found in Version 10 includes:

Environment Information The Environment Information dialog has been completely redesigned with several new features. It is a tabbed dialog, with the following tabs:

  • Terrain - This page allows users to set up the terrain model (the surface on which vehicles are driven) using a 3-D geometry (mesh) or a Google Map (Aerial Photo).
  • Sky - This page allows users to create a "Sky Dome" that surrounds the environment. The sky may have clouds and fog, and shows the sun at the correct azimuth and zenith for the latitude/longitude and time of year. These scene is lit by the sun using a directional light.
  • Physical - This page allows users to edit the environments physical parameters (e.g., wind speed/direction, ambient temperature and barometric pressure, gravity constant).
  • Location - This page allows users to assign latitude, longitude and hours from GMT for sun positioning purposes (these affect how the scene is lit).

DyMESH Wheel Impact • The Wheel Impact model, which has been in Beta testing for two years, will be available to all DyMESH users. This allows for the robust simulation of collision forces between a vehicle's sprung mass (i.e., body) and the wheel(s) of another vehicle, as well as wheel-to-wheel impact.

Vehicle Textures HVE vehicles can now include textures. There are several applications for this feature: Undercarriage, head lights, vehicle emblems, license plates, ...

Environment Lights • The lighting model has been updated with a new Light Object dialog that allows users to assign lights (e.g., street lights or other lighting) to the environment.

Vehicle Light Systems HVE Vehicles can now include a complete light system (e.g., head lights with low and high beam, tail lights, running lights, brake lights, backup lights, turn signals) that operate just as they do on a real vehicle: Brake lights come on when the brakes are applied; backup lights come on when the vehicle is shifted into reverse; turn signals are turned on by the driver and turn off when the steering wheel is returned to center).

GEBOD Human InformationHVE human models are now created using GEBOD IV (GEnerator of BODy Data). A custom version with an HVE interface has been integrated into the HVE Human Editor. This capability allows users to create human models for any height/weight combination using percentiles or actual height and weight of an occupant or pedestrian.

Vehicle-Trailer Connections • The inter-vehicle connection model has been extended to allow users to model the linear and torsional stiffness and damping of the connection, as well as free play. EDSMAC4 and SIMON have been extended to take advantage of these new capabilities.

These are just a few of the enhancements available in HVE Version 10.

HVE Version 10 is available starting Feburary 3, 2014. It will be shipped automatically to all users with a current Update/Support policy.
